Pentagon, which oversees roughly 3 million defense personnel, civil employees and contractors, added special versions of OpenAI’s ChatGPT and xAI’s Grok to its GenAI.mil platform. The tools, named ChatGPT Mil and Grok for Government, will provide secure, centralized access to commercial AI models for Pentagon staff, ensuring data privacy and supplier security compliance. GenAI.mil, launched in 2023, was created to give Pentagon employees a protected environment for utilizing commercial AI, supporting decision‑making, training, operational planning and secure deployment of AI in mission‑critical contexts. The integration aims to improve operational efficiency and defense capabilities, demonstrating the Department of Defense’s commitment to responsible and auditable AI use.
